Spectacular swinging jazz
Alexander McCabe - I'd Prefer
By Dick Metcalf, editor
February 1, 2021

Over the last 20 years, I've reviewed a lot of saxophonist Alexander's music, most recently his "This Is Not A Pipe" album, so getting his spectacular swinging jazz in for review again is kinda' like "old home week" here in my "Morning Calm" review studios. I didn't find LIVE videos on Alexander's YouTube topic channel (hint! hint!), but you can hear the entire album here...

As always, the players are top-of-the-line... Alexander McCabe: alto saxophone; George Coleman: tenor saxophone; Anne McCabe: vocals; Paul Odeh: piano; Chris Haney: bass; Jeff Brown: drums.. Paul's swirling piano intro for the 5:20 "Miss Maritza" segues nicely into some of the hottest sax work you'll ever listen to... DJ's worldwide will be plugging this tune into their playlists with a "permanent" marker!

The zest for life you'll find in "New York City" is echoed perfectly in this superb song with great lyrics penned by Alexander with his superb alto sax as well... short (3:29), but sweet.

You won't find a more stirring blues jam than you hear on the 7:07 closer, "Out Front Blues"... high-spirited blues & jazz that will MAKE your DAY... this is (without question) my personal favorite of the eight (long) songs offered up!

I give Alexander & all his musical cohorts a MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED rating, with an "EQ" (energy quotient) score of 4.99 for this most memorable release. Get more information on Alexander's website.
