Alexander McCabe, Saxophonist

Alexander McCabe is a saxophonist and composer. Originally from Boston, he has been performing in and around the New York City area since the 1980's. Alexander was a featured soloist with the Ray Charles Orchestra and was an original member, and toured with, the Chico O'Farril Afro-Cuban big band.

Alexander has played with -among others- George Coleman, Danny Aiello, Harold Mabern, Clifford Jordan, George Coleman Jr. Maurio Bauza, and Nancie Banks. He's toured the UK and Europe, including the Edinburg and Cork festivals, the Pori Jazz Festival, the North Sea festival, The Vienne Music Festival and others. He has recorded extensively with a variety of artists. He has released three CDs as a leader. His new CD Quiz was released 10/28/2010.

Alexander has composed and arranged original music in many styles, from large orchestral pieces to small combos. His original music has been used in many films and televisions shows including the HBO series Bored to Death (2010), the Showtime series Nurse Jackie, (2010), Possible Side Effects (2009) a Showtime Network pilot written and directed by Tim Robbins and he is a contributing composer to the new MTV series Skins, (2011). Other credits include the documentary Islam in America (2008) and the feature film River of Grass (1994). Alexander has also done collaborative work with director Greg Mottola and others. As a member and songwriter for the popular ska band Mephiskapheles, he performed and toured the US and Europe. Mephiskapheles songs are used in many TV Commercials, and were featured prominently in MTV's The Real Life. Alexander performed with Mephiskapheles and with the techno artist Moby on the soundtrack to the James Bond film Tomorrow Never Dies. Alexander's musical Common Decency was performed at La Mama in NYC.

Recently, he composed the music for the New York Classical Theater's Classics in Jazz benefit performances.
